In what might be the most jaw-dropping statement he's made in his campaign -- and that's like picking the hottest rock in a lava flow -- Mitt Romney threatens America: vote for me or my party will kill the economy. Again.
“You know that if the President is re-elected, he will still be unable to work with the people in Congress,” Romney said. “He has ignored them, attacked them, blamed them. The debt ceiling will come up again, and shutdown and default will be threatened, chilling the economy.”One lie ("he has ignored them") two false implications ("attacked them, blamed them" -- he may have, but with damn good reason), and then, the truth: his party will once again try to blackmail the American people. The president may, indeed, be unable to work with them; but whose fault will it be? The man who reached out immediately after his election, or the party who stated their number one priority was to ruin his presidency?
So, says The Rominee, based on historical evidence we can expect Democrats won't dig in hard enough to damage the country. They'd work with me when the chips were down. My party, on the other hand, would be even greater assholes than they've been if President Obama is reelected.
Hell of an argument, right? Elect me or else. Because my guys are thugs. Who was the last person to threaten our government by hostage taking?
(And now, on final approach, Mitt would rather you think about a single offhand word by President Obama than the implications of the above explicit threat.)
